Rewarding people for long term thinking gives Sustainable profits
Today, many businesses suffer from volatile and cyclical financial performance. Much of this can be traced to a desire for short-term gains at the expense of the planet or people. If the shift in thinking about Quality we allude to occurs, this must be supported by people’s performance systems that can accommodate the long time scale that implementing sustainability will require. If people keep getting rewarded for short-term performance, longer-term initiatives will be ignored. Of all the people in a corporation, the CEO is the one under the most intense pressure to perform in the short term.
